2011 Volkswagen Jetta vegetable oil
Some owners have converted their diesel cars to run on vegetable oil used as fuel. This can be obtained from most fast food restaurants for a minimal fee (if any). However, there has been at least one report of catastrophic engine damage resulting from the use of waste vegetable oil.
Running the car on biofuels of any type has the advantage of being at least partly carbon neutral.
